I anslutning till The Euro-Arctic Assembly i Bodø 12-13 november, delas Barents Scholarship for Cultural Cooperation ut till kulturskapare i Finland, Norge och Sverige. Stipendiet på 10 000 euro uppmärksammar och uppmuntrar konstnärlig kvalitet och gränsöverskridande samarbete i Barentsområdet.

Sveriges stipendiater i år är Inga.Wiktoria Påve och Fredrik Prost, båda etablerade samiska konstnärer som arbetar inom duodji, bildkonst och design.

Ur motiveringen

In their application to the Barents Scholarship for Cultural Cooperation, the artist duo Inga-Wiktoria Påve and Fredrik Prost proposed the project Sámirái, an artistic installation aimed at strengthening the self-esteem of Sámi youth by highlighting their cultural heritage. The project is inspired by Japanese samurai culture, using it as a symbol of strength and resilience. The project also features Ailu Valle, a Sámi joik singer and rap artist, who contributes the music interpretation. Påve creates a Sami-inspired samurai armor based on the traditional gátki, while Prostcontributes a mask made of wood and horn. Together with visual art, these elements will be presented in an exhibition at  the Oulu Art Museum during the European Capital of Culture year 2026.

Through Sámirái, they aim to strengthen the shared artistic scene in the North and create new opportunities for collaboration throughout the Barents region.

Om stipendiet

Tillsammans med Barents Euro-Arctic Council, BEAC, utlyser nätverket Working Group on Culture ett stipendium för samarbeten inom kultursektorn i Barentsområdet, Barents Scholarship for Cultural Cooperation. Stipendiet är på 10 000 euro och delas ut vartannat år. En stipendiat från Sverige, Norge och Finland utses. Stipendiet skall uppmärkssamma och uppmuntra konstnärlig kvalitet och gränsöverskridande samarbete i Barentsområdet. Det kan delas ut till enskilda personer eller till grupper, föreningar eller andra sammansättningar av verksamma kulturutövare. 

Mottagaren av stipendiet skall vara verksam i Barentsområdet samt uppvisa: 

• erfarenhet av tidigare kultursamarbete med en eller flera regioner i Barnetsområdet
• ambition och vilja till ytterligare kultursamarbete med en eller flera regioner i Barentsområdet
• hög konstnärlig kvatlitet i tidigare arbete
